Mike,

That would mean you were walking.  If I pay $200 a round you better bet I'm riding my fat ass around!!!  I know a lot of people would like to see the original routing restored, but I would hate to have to hit that tee ball off of #15 for my first swing of the day.  Well worth the wait in my opinion.

Henry,

About which, riding a cart or the routing?  I've walked Banff once and found it very walkable except for the aforementioned 14th green to 15th tee, however I'll still take the cart every time.  As for the current routing again I don't mind it at all.

Andrew,

Fortunately for me, I was playing with a guy from Florida who had a cart.  I dropped my bag in the landing zone and drove up.  I can't imagine how long it takes to walk from the 14th to the road, let alone the next two thirds of the walk up the mountain.  It was tough to get the cart up there!

I walked the course a year ago, and I found it to be reasonable.  The trip up to 15 takes some time because of the distance, but it is not particularly strenuous.

I wouldn't have an issue walking it again in the future.

Banff has only two tough walks, After the Devil's Cauldron #4, I believe and after the current 14th.
The current routing is not horrible but the original is far superior. What irks me is that the resort knows the original is better and it would not be difficult to have everyone play it that way.
Mike,
Banff is certainly tougher today than Jasper and a case can be made that the bunkering is better.  But for me Jasper's brilliance is the limited bunkering and great use of the natural contours of the land. #2, #3, #8, #15 and #18 are holes that really took advantage of the land. #3, #8 and #15 are great examples of holes that required little of no bunkers because the strange contours are enough to make it interesting.
Banff has two exceptional par 3's but Jasper has 4.
Banff is very good and I really loved it as well but Jasper is so much fun to play. Fun is underated. Difficulty is overated.
Kerry.

Kerry, I agree with your comments on the use of the land at Jaspar.  What was the original routing at Banff?  The current routing from 14 to 15 definitely slows down the round if it is somewhat busy.

thanks

#15 was the original opening hole.
That made the current 12, 13 and 14 the finishers which is visually spectacular. At 12 you get your first glimpse of the Banff Springs Hotel and #14 is a great hole with the hotel as the backdrop.
Ben Dewars essay on Banff posted on this site has more of these details.

Kerry, thanks.  Starting on the 15th would be a better.  Was the clubhouse where the German restaurant is now?

I will read Ben's write-up, especially since I just met him last week. ;)
