Can I be Bartender/Sommelier for the evening?  What a top job that would be.

All of you have forgotten perhaps one of, if not the current best players in the world,  to speak about the new millenium, Annika.

Assuming ladies are not permitted to attend:

Bobby Jones
Tiger Woods
Old Tom Morris
Francis Ouimet
Dad
Lee Trevino (for Dad)
A Certain Hampton's Dentist (in appreciation)
A Certain Carmel Resident (ditto)
Gib

Why anyone would invite that pompous CB is beyond me.  And wouldn't most architects be boring? ;)

I would like to add seats outside the rope for doak, coore, young, bauer nuzz and the other architects on this site along with a special place for Geoff,Finnigin and Brad K with a couch for M Wie, after she turns 21, and myself. hmmm yes that would be fine.

I'm not good at the dead people thing, I perfer to stay in the possible. I like people with strong opinions on architecture and this would be an active discussion over dinner.

So....
1. Ran Morrissett
2. Ron Whitten
3. Lorne Rubenstein
4. Jack Nicklaus
5. Bill Coore
6. Tom Doak
7. Geoff Shackelford
8. Tom MacWood
9. and .......... there are so many good alternatives

Drinks after with David Kidd, Gil Hanse or Bruce Hepner would be in order too. ;)

I think getting people together to talk about Golf Architecture would be great.  How do you get people to open up without Pontificating?  Two of my earliest memories when I was starting to learn about Golf course Architecture was asking questions. 1) asking Pete Dye a question which he quickly answered but didn't elaborate. 2) asking Art Hills a question (while two of his design associates were standing by him), in which I was laughed off the face of the earth.

I believe the question was just who would you want at dinner with you in the R&A clubhouse, to help ring in the new mlillenium... I don't see where the assumption is the discussion would be about golf course architecture, and the way I see it, god help us if that's ALL we discussed - talk about a waste of a potentially epic evening....  ;)

In any case I can do no better than the submission of the wise Mr. Goodale.  I put this in the hands of the expert.  I have absolute confidence a wonderful time would be had by all.

Ian:

I've actually had dinner with every one of your list sometime in my life, but prefer to visit with them one or two at a time so I can learn as much as possible.

RJ:

I think I like your list best (assuming Brad's is still off limits), but I would have to find room for Mr. Jones somewhere in there.  And I would have to include Crenshaw because he would get an even bigger kick out of it than I would.

Name-dropper.   ;D

And reviewing the list, none surprise me... except... MacWood?  I didn't think he really existed... all these years I assumed he was someone else's nom de plume, or d'guerre as the case may be....

Mine is a little more player focused than most of the others:  Harry Vardon, Mike Keiser, Francis Ouimet, Bobby Jones, Tiger Woods, Old Tom, Donald Ross, Gary Player, and Ben Hogan.

I don't need 9.

Mackenzie, Jones, Roberts, Fazio, Hootie, Geoff Shackelford and Bob Crosby.

And me.

That's only 8! The bidding for the 9th spot starts at....
