OK, back to the original topic...

This weekend I'm playing in the hacker flight of the "Club Championship" at Columbia (SC) Country Club.

As I am playing in the oh so illustrious Championship flight of the Club Championship for the oh so illustrious Santa Teresa Men's Golf Club.

Next weekend is Pine Valley and the weekend after is The Country Club, Fishers Island, and Kittansett. This weekend I am babysitting so my bride can go away with her girlfriends. Oh the sacrifices one must make.

As was not so kindly pointed out to me by my signifiicant other, it's not baby sitting when it is your own kid. :D

I agree with Ryan; Jim and Huck, be careful using your reasoning around your wives!

Tedesco CC Sat. AM

Moving Sat. PM and Sun......Fantas-great... :P

I'm realizing moving wouldn't be nearly as bad if you didn't have 100+ golf architecture books and a couple thousand loose scorecards and yardage books to move....

Tom, Jim, Paul,

Wouldnt it be good exercise to walk around with daddy for 18 holes across praries and fairways, and let loose some of that energy?
Is'nt that better than sitting home and watching TV while Daddy has a cold brewsky or something?
I mean, c'mon, its just 18 holes..

Thanks Jordan, but one of mine (GOLF) turns 1 on Sunday and isn't interested in wallking 18 on my back. If I just had my girls then that would be an awesome suggestion, but, alas, I have them all. It is daddy bonding time. We'll see if I have any hair by the end of Saturday.

Jordan - I take my kids to play the great game all the time.  That too counts as babysitting.

And Paul, it's all in the phrasing.  Of course one doesn't call it babysitting, one calls it bonding time or the like.  But hell yes it counts as something taking you away from other things, when required.  That is, when you need credit.

Sadly, I must miss the chance to play with the inimatable Ed Getka at Lawsonia, this weekend.  :'( :-\

I'm playing regular Men's club day Thurs. which I'd skip to play with Ed, but he can't play Lawsonia until Sunday.

I'm playing all weekend, FRi,Sat,Sun in the Brown County Open, 4th flight, indexes 12-16.  (I'm a 12.7)

But, I have no idea which tortured soul will show up in my body.  My last scores were 94,86, (105 Lawsonia!!!), 81 the next day!!!, 89, 96, 80, 86, 93.

Shivas, handicap and flight this!!!

I need a witch doctor to exorcise me... :-[

Herman Sani Invitational, Hyperion Field Club, Des Moines, Iowa.  I have not played the course in over 20 years.  I'm guessing the trees have grown.

Sonny, when I was your age, I'd just hit my tee shot right over those trees on the inside of that dog leg...

I'm playing our big member-guest this weekend at white manor with fellow GCA'er Mike Trenham.  Hopefully we can get some of that GCA luck and win our flight  :)

Muxe Cup - Los Cabos, Mexico

For the adventurous feel free to reasearch the spanish word "muxe" and see if you can figure out what this tournament is about.

10 golf professsionals participating in 36 hole medal play format... what is the theme? Unique aspect?

You're dressing like women, if not playing pink balls and hitting from the ladies tees.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muxe

What I can't figure out is the WHY aspect of this.  I'm sure that's the good part of the story.  But for now, it sounds like this shouldn't take place in Mexico, but rather about 50 miles north of where I live.

Huck,

On the right track but the staff has no desire to actually dress like women even though this is the literal meaning of muxe.

Ok then... basing this on what I just learned about what a Muxe is...

Three person teams - one man, one woman, one junior or senior.  Either that or some other way to differentiate three classes.

That's the limit of my creativity.  But this has been an interesting learning experience...

Muxe Cup - Los Cabos, Mexico

... what is the theme? Unique aspect?

Playing from 3 different sets of tees?

Does that mean if I play from the whites I'm a muxe?

Huck,

Nothing too elaborate... just a bunch pros who, in a need to post a low score, are playing a tounrament from the ladies tees.

Pretty fun actually, we have already completed one 36 hole event on The Ocean Course and are now moving over to The Desert Course.

Pressure to birdie every hole is intense... must be how the guys felt last week at the Buick.

36 hole medal
Bonus for breaking 60 (not as easy as it may sound)
Cash penalty for scores above par in any round (makes for some interesting moments when a few bad shots creep in early).

Greg - FANTASTIC!  Sounds like a lot of fun and the tourney is aptly named.  And oh yes, even for pros, well... you still have to make the shots and make the putts.  I know those two courses well - Ocean is awesome but Desert also is pretty damn good - you're gonna have fun just playing that, let alone trying to win some money - and it ain't gonna be any sort of given to go all THAT low.  Nevertheless, that does sound like a hell of a lot of fun, and is a great exercise also - the teaching gurus always advise pros and other scratches to try this from time to time, to get used to the idea and concept of getting way under par.

Good luck!

Yep, amazing what one's mind does when approaching 10,11,12 under par in a single round regardless of the course.

Added bonus is we have discovered some rather good par 3 holes (ladies par 4's). #14 Ocean is a great 3 from ladies tees.

18 under won on The Ocean Course... probably similar score on Desert.

Talking with Tommy N and Ran about hosting a GCA event down here mid year 2007. Look forward to meeting some of the group.

Greg - that would be one hell of a great place for an event.  Call me a certified Cabo-maniac - I've been there way too many times as it is, but can always be talked into another trip.

BTW, not to take this totally off-track, but last time down we were in a financial conservation mode, so I eschewed the high-ticket places like CdeS and only played the 9hole course in San Jose del Cabo... which darn it turned out to be amazingly good!  Ever slum it up there?  Anyone else played this course?  I forget the name of it now...

Huck,

The 9-holer used to be called Fonatur Golf Cours and has been purchased and upgraded by Mayan Resorts...

Condition is better, Carts actually run... Pretty tough little track as OB is everywhere and close... glad I don't live in the condos around that place. Have not been there in forever... can't even get motivated to walk out the door and play Ocean after a day at the "office"

New course opening up across the highway from the 9-holer... Club Campestre San José a Nicklaus Design course. The on site coordinator is rather excited about it. Says it measures up to most in the area (except Ocean).

Also new golf beyond San José at a  project named Puerto Los Cabos - 9 Nicklaus Signature/9 Norman make up the original 18 and then will be split off into separate 18's with each designer adding their second nine.

Lots if private courses on the board for the immediate future as well. As many as a dozen in the next 5+ years.

Greg - you've assessed that 9-holer perfectly - oh yes, those condos are in big trouble at all times.  But man I had fun there.. and yeah, it's now the Maya something or other.

I'd heard about SOME development, but not all that... muy interesante.  There sure is room for growth - glad to hear it's happening.

Huck,

Mayan Golf Course
http://www.mayanresortsgolf.com/english/loscabos/index.htm

Mayan is a huge timeshare company here in Mexico that acquired the course as a marketing tool for their new properties going in north of San José.

Pretty much everything from San José to San Lucas has been planned out and will be in the beginning stages in 2007.

Montage - 27 holes (supposedly)
Chileno Bay - 36 holes (Fazio)
El Dorado - Redesigned & now private
Querencia - Contemplating another course
Campestre - 18 holes (Nicklaus)
Puerto Los Cabos - 36 holes (Nicklaus/Norman)

Beyond San José
Mayan - 36 holes (Designer not sure, possibly Weiskopf)

Pacific Side
Diamante del Mar - 36 Holes (Love & Mickelson)
As many as 4 others being talked about

Pretty neat time to be here in Cabo.
