From the what's new in Colorado thread...

I don't think The Club at Flying Horse has broken ground yet.

Derek, as Rick stated, The Club at Flying Horse, in Colorado Springs, opened last August.  Below are some pictures of the course.

Matt,

Is that a reparian or a trench bunker, fronting the 14th green?

Looks like a nice place to spend the day. Amazing how mature it looks. I wonder if thats caused by the look of the transitions to native??

Adam:

It is reparian.  That trench was actually enhanced by recent heavy rains.  The 14th is a 450 yard bunkerless par 4.  The only bunkerless hole on the course.

What were your impressions of Weiskopf's short, driveable par4s?

Steve:

The 6th hole reads 377 yards on the card, however, if measured directly it is closer to 320 yards.  It is an exciting hole that probably sees more bogeys and doubles than birdies.  It is reachable with a helping wind.  The green is among the most heavily contoured on the course which I think fits a driveable par 4.  More players would probably play down the right side if the fairway were wider and more visible from the tee.  Almost everyone seems to play driver at the green.

The 15th hole is 333 yards from the tips with a huge fairway and a large, fairly flat green, and a shallow, right fronting greenside bunker (that doesn't appear on the below diagram).  I think the intent was to make this a breather hole as it comes after a tough 450 yard par 4, and precedes a tough finish that includes a 207 yard par 3 and two more 450+ yard par 4s.

Matt, Just from the description I have to ask...did they ever reverse the nines?

Adam:

No changes to the order of the nines.  I like that the last three holes force someone having a good round to finish strong.  The back nine occupies the more dramatic land.

Matt,
This is a course I could get into playing should I ever visit Colorado. The nature surely abounds. (along with another one in Holyoke and andother in Colorado Springs)

Who designed it? What are the particulars? No need for distance from the tips or slope rating.

Is that a wooden furrow rake in the bunker?

Was this a special occasion? I dont think those rakes will last very long in the elements day after day. They are so cheap and thin, have you ever used one Tommy?

Tommy, It's a solo Weiskopf design, I believe. Matt can confirm.
