Tiger playing slow?
« on: July 23, 2006, 11:18:25 AM »
Els commented yesterday that he couldn't get into rythym because his group was out of position. Translation: Tiger was playing slow. Azinger just noted that Tiger's group is out of position again today. Finally, Faldo said something about Tiger playing slowly in their group on Thurs or Fri.

Maybe when Tiger slow played Dimarco at the Masters that was just Tiger's regular speed?

You don't play slow, you play slowly!

We used to get on Garcia's case for the amount of waggles he used to do during his set up, should we not be starting to get on Tiger's case for the amount of, as Faldo would say "rehearsal swings" he takes prior to getting over the ball.  There has to be somewhere between 10 and 15 at times.  Have a camera or cell phone go off and it 6 to 8 more.

Ridiculous, but so is this camera and cell phone thing.

It was pretty disturbing, and almost comical, to see how many times Tiger had to back off of his routine because of all the camera phones.

Combined with the paint balls that were thrown on the 18th green by "demonstrators", and this was a bad day for the reputation of the British Open galleries, which are normally known as very knowledgeable, polite, and generally well-behaved.

The R&A has to do something different next year. I know the PGA Tour won't even let you take a camera on the course--maybe the same should be done for phones.

And speaking of demonstrators and drawing attention to yourselves, what ever happened to good, old-fashioned streaking? The weather was great for it, and Peter Jacobsen isn't even around any more to tackle anyone. I'd rather see a couple of out-of-shape, pale-white streakers (the usual fare for streakers unless Elin Nordgren wants to kick off her streaking career) than purple splotches on the 18th green...

Sean,

Most of those Yanks were probably there on the corporate dollar. Kind of sad, and I agree that the idiots that yell "You da Man!" and da like should be banned from the course.

Chris

Odds on that the folks weilding phone cameras were Yanks.  Probably the same ones which shout "get in the hole!" from somewhere four deep in the crowd.  I was completely shocked at how many Americans were at the Open.  I could be mistaken, but I think their numbers have increased dramatically from my last visit in '99.

As, I am sure, the geniuses who threw paint balls on the eighteenth green.
