Shoreacres Routing
« on: July 20, 2006, 02:48:00 PM »
When out at Shoreacres yesterday I noticed that the land that many today would consider the best for a golf hole next to the lake is occupied by the clubhouse.

Does anyone know why Raynor or the founding members of the club decided to keep the holes on the far west side of the property?

Thanks!

I have always wondered the same thing.

Nevertheless, the views from the clubhouse are second to none.

Lakeshore in Erie is similar.  The clubhouse and pool are right on the lake, but no golf holes.

Mike, my screen isn't clear...do you mean yacht mooring or mooning? ;)

Given their clubhouse burned at least once, perhaps it was an attempt to have some fire protection from nearby Lake Michigan.

To those who know the land fairly well...

Imagine if 18, which is on pretty flat land, was pushed towards the lake...so that the green rested on the shore of lake michigan.

   Improvement?

Would it be a par 6?  Isn't 18 a par 5?

Ryan,

No haha, my idea was keeping it a par-5....however having 17 and 18 about 200 yards apart.

 Maybe it's a bad idea  :-\

Since we're trying to screw up my favorite course, why don't we go all the way.  I guess we should push 9 all the way back too.  We'll take 17 and have it dogleg right instead of left.  What do we do with 8 though?  We will have a ton of room between the old 8th and the new 9th tee.  ;D

Lots of clubhouses in that era where built on the Lake. Lake Shore in Glenco has its clubhouse on primo lake front property.

The lake front sluffs off from time to time and the clubhouse gets closer to the lake as the years go by.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta
