The pictures of North Berwick sent me looking for a line from Finegan's "All Courses Great and Small."
Here it is, writing of Westward Ho!:
"No other outstanding layout in Britain and Ireland, with the exceptions of Prestwick and North Berwick, is such a monument to golf as it was played well over a century ago."

That aside, do you think he has it right?
What very few other "outstanding" layouts might fit into that mix?
I'm tempted to nominate Brora, but I put the course half a notch below outstanding.
