The Engineers CC website states:
In 1921, Engineers Golf Course was remodeled by Devereux Emmet. Emmet had also designed courses for Cherry Valley, Garden City, Glen Head, Salisbury, Seawane, Meadowbrook and others. Engineers was listed in Frank Menckeís Encyclopedia of Sports as one of the best courses in the U.S.A.
This remodel was less than three years after the course opened! THREE YEARS!!! Why did the members feel the course needed remodeling so soon? What was the problem?
Why didn't they bring in Strong to make the changes?
What were Emmet's changes?
The website also states that "critics" of the day had mixed feelings about Engineers when it opened:
Some thought Engineers to be the finest course in the country. Others felt it was no more than a "bag of tricks" (as quoted from publications of that era).
Was that the motivation for the remodel? Is that why they didn't choose Strong?
