This site has provided me the opportunity to meet an incredible number of wonderful people. I will second both Hucks and Bill's comments. I put the people ahead of the golf architecture information base which this site has brought into my life. I am very thankful to have met all you guys.

If you count their posts the only one you need to know is Tom Paul. But, I am north of fifty.

I have to admit that the majority of you guys don't come off as near the pompous douche bags in person as you do on this site.

John,

That's good to know.  Folks who've met you say the same thing about you!

You wouldn't believe the compliments I've heard.  They describe you as a cuddly teddy-bear type of guy who is unassuming, pleasant, and humorous.   I think one guy even used the term "cute".   ;D

My first GCA outing was with klangone, Eckstein, curiousjj, and Jordan Wall.  That was in 2001 and klangone was up to his ochsters in SEC investigations, Eckstein still did'n't know who that "Emperor" guy was, jj was stalking Shivas and Jordan was just getting out of his nappies.

We played at Foulpointe, but the starter (some geezer called Richardson) wouldn't let us out as a 5-some and all the bar sold was milk.  Jordan was in Hog Heaven, but the rest of us left posthaste and took a cruise to Tasmania.  We passed out at a place called "Barnbougle" as the rest is history.

I hope I don't come off as pompous....even if I do find pull carts visually offensive.

Barney, I agree... pull carts are dorky.  But, what do you think of push carts?  What about the remote control electronic jobs?

Mike, I'm sorry and regret that time when we were at WS and you asked me if I'd met Barney yet and how did he seem... and I called him sort of cute...  I meant a hoot.

RJ,

If memory serves, you were very specific on exactly how cute John is.  I felt a group hug just from your description.  ;)

btw - pull carts are totally dorky.  There is no way anyone can look cool, or even remotely manly with a pull cart.    They are also a pain in the ass on sideslopes.

However, I still like 'em, because they let you walk without a lot of strain on the shoulders and upper back.

Mike, that is not quite true, as I manage to look rather cool and manly with my pullcart while I listen to Kansas playing on my Walkman.

One thing that makes me very happy to report is that Erin Hills will be charging $10 for the use of a pull cart in addition to their $150 greenfee....Somebody up there likes me...

Andy,

I will concede that "The Wall" and "Cheyenne Anthem" were two of the high points of the last musical epoch.

Unfortunately, you and I were likely the only ones to take notice.

Truly, what happened to those guys?  I mean, their first several albums were superb and original, hitting a high point with "Masque" and "Leftoverture", and then....well, "Point of Know Return" had it's moments, the one with the Indian theme was possibly underrated, but then they just became some annoying inferior version of their worst characteristics.

I mean, how do the same guys write "Dust In The Wind" and then sink to "Got to Rock On" in a couple of years?

I'm trying to think of an architectural analogy to keep this thread remotely on point, but unfortunately, it's pointless and I'm obviously at the point of know return.

Seeing these lists has now caused me some concern.  I haven't been reading as much as usual.  But, Brian Gracely, Scott Bouroughs, Pete Buckowski, Jason Mandel (and those are just from this last list that was posted) have been uncomfortably absent.  Are these gents just busy with summer and families, etc?  I'm thinking we need some sort of roll call or system to shake some of these guys out of the trees.

Okay, I was thinking about the giant social network of GCA today.

How many (and which ones) GCAers have you met?

My list:
Wayne Morrison
Mike Cirba
Doug Braunsdorf
Cory Lewis
Alex Stravides
Jamie Slonis
Jim Sullivan
James Bennet
Phil Young
Daryl K. Boe
Craig Rokke
Bill Vostinak
Tom Paul
Chris Holcombe
Dave Maberry
Pat Mucci
Steve Sayers
Steve Shaffer
Mike Malone
Craig Disher

That makes 20 for me, though I may have omitted some...  :-[

And what a pleasure it was to meet you this week Kyle.  I am sorry we didnt get to play any together.  Alas your choice of course set up kicked this recently "over the hill" guys a** sufficiently in 18 holes for me to call it quits.

My thoughts of a 27 or 36 hole day quickly dissipated on the back nine as I was not only leaking oil, but several other vital fluids as well.  The sinus infection I had been trying to hold off all week finally did me in.   But what a great time we had for the first 18.

Unfortunately for me the performance right "out of the box" was as good as it was going to get all day.  As I quickly started to get fatigued as the day went along.  (Feel free to embellish about how I overpowered the first hole though if you would like).

Take Care,
Daryl

If I can get my laptop back amongst the living I might even post a couple pics one of these days.  (Assuming I am allowed of course?)

Sean,

You're correct on both parts.  A lefty from Ky.  Usually not so quiet, but that night at the bar at Pine Needles I was interested in seeing what deep insights Kavanaugh might drop on us so I just kept my mouth shut.
