Toronto GCA Gathering at Copetown Woods -- July 8 or 15?
« on: June 12, 2006, 08:13:37 PM »
Okay, gents, we have two possible dates for our next GCA gathering. The location is Copetown Woods (www.copetownwoods.com) , a good golf course designed and built by our own Dick Kirkpatrick, just outside of Hamilton, about an hour from Toronto. The plan is to play mid-afternoon on a Saturday and then have dinner and listen to Dick talk about the course. Then beer and much debate.

There are two dates available -- July 8 and 15 and the club has been very kind in offering to host several foursomes for the event. Please PM me with your preferred date and I'll tally up which works best for the most. Ideally I'd like to get three or four foursomes -- so including the owner and the GM of the club, up to 12 guys.

I think this will be great fun and there's already been talk of a late summer follow up -- potentially at the historic AW Tillinghast course Scarboro Golf &CC.

Send me notes and let's get this set.

So far it looks like July 8 works best -- Wayne and Yannick appear to be in, and it works for Dick Kirkpatrick...

Robert,

I'd like to join you but I'm most likely out of the country on both those days.  If my plans change I'll let you know.

Alright -- I think July 8 it is. Can everyone interested in coming along post here so I can tally up the names? Dick Kirkpatrick is good for that date...

Okay, we're set for July 8. I now need to know who is coming for certain. Dave K and TJ are in, as is Chris Parker and Kerry Gray. Wayne Kozun and Allan Hutton are also coming by.

Since Dick, the owner and the GM are joining us, I'd like to have a workable number.

The round is being looked after by the club, and we'll have dinner in the clubhouse (at our expense) following, with a discussion of the course with Dick. Since Dick worked with the likes of Robbie Robinson, and had a hand in building dozens of courses around the country, his take on golf architecture should be fascinating.

So is anyone else interested, or can I go ahead and talk to the club. Ideally I'd like four foursomes. Right now we have almost three....

how are the border crossings?  A yankee is interested if it isn't too bad at the Queenstown/Lewiston bridge.

Aside from Copetown, make sure you guys get Dick talking about working with Trent Jones at Oakland Hills. He was involved with at least one of the remodel jobs there. Interesting stuff.

We are set for four foursomes on July 8 starting at 2:40. I've confirmed the following players:

Dick K.
TJ
Wayne K.
Matt M.
Chris Parker
Dave K.
Kerry Gray
Allan Hutton
Me
plus the owner of Copetown Woods.

So far we've got 10 all in, which is a great number. If there's anyone else looking to come along, we'd be glad to have you. Following the round there will be a discussion about the course over dinner with Dick Kirkpatrick, the course designer.

Best.

Robert,

I've had a change of plans, so I can make it.  See you there on the 8th.

Dan,

Border crossing at Lewiston has never been a problem for me going either way.  Its never been busy or a hassle.
