DeBary Golf & Country Club
« on: June 20, 2006, 12:31:20 PM »
I'm going to be in Orlando next week, and playing DeBary G&CC next week, and wondering if anybody's familiar with it... I'm not.  The architect is Lloyd Clifton, which is also a new name for me.

On their website (www.debarycc.com), they have some pics, and the course looks to have some elevation change to it (at least for Florida standards).

Love to hear more about this course and its designer.

Wayne,
The company, Clifton, Ezell & Clifton, has built numerous courses in central Florida. I've never played DeBary, but have played several others by this firm. I wasn't unhappy after a round on one of their courses, nor was I surprised while playing one. I think the vast majority of their work has taken place w/ real estate as a component.

I played the course about 7-8 years ago. The little I remember was decent condition and fairly short. I would suggest Victoria Hills which is in close by delightful Deland.

Lloyd Clifton designed every course in Orlando that wasn't done by Joe Lee.

I think you'll really like DeBary.  It is a better than average golf course that is usually well maintained.  The terrain has a little undulation.

If you seldom stray you'll be fine.  If you are prone to spraying you might be battling O.B. all day.  You could probably hit it out on every hole since it is routed through homes.

As mentioned, the best in the area is Victoria Hills.  I can also offer a strong recommendation for Deltona Hills, one of the first (if not the first) courses built atop a landfill.  It is an excellent routing on a very good piece of property.  The result is a course that gets paid the ultimate compliment - "it's not like a Florida course".

If you need any recommendations for other area golf I have played everything.  One sleeper that you might like is just up the road.  The municipal in Port Orange is called the Golf Club at Cypress Head and I always had fun there.

So how was it?  Or are you here this week?
