Yet another reason he is so much better than Miller.

Faldo was just out here in Montana checking on his new course...The Wilderness Club....and from all reports, Montana seemed like the last place he wanted to be...

It's Faldo way of lobbying for the captaincy some time before everyone forgets who he is.

As a commentator he is pretty good.

Sam Torrance (who is a big friend of Mark James - there's a lot of Faldo Ryder Cup history right there) said in his Autobiography that Faldo's record would not have been so strong had he not insisted in getting the partner he wanted each time.

I don't think Faldo requested David Gilford.

JES,  Im sure you are jesting but No-one is ever going to forget who Faldo is... he was one of the best golfers ever as well as having a Charisma in front of the camera.

Faldo already has the 2008 Ryder Cup captaincy sewn up--no need for lobbying.

If that is true, than I have been asleep. Is that official? Where are the matches?

JE,

No question about his credentials. That's why the comment. Why has he been passed over this long? Considering Tim's post I will admit my error.

Craig, thanks for nuthin:):)

I KNOW he meant the way they arrange the partners and pairings...what's the strategy involved in the partners and pairings?  And how does it maximize results, NO MATTER WHAT the US throws against them?

Whenever possible, pair by nationality. Stay away from star pairings, pair an A player with a B player. The player need to be comfortable with his partner.

It was announced jointly with the Woosie appointment of Captaincy for 2006.  I think the matches will be at Valhalla.

Sean

Theoretically O'Meara will get the US nod that probably would have gone to Payne Stewart. A bad decision anyway... because O'Meara is of Irish heritage he should have gotten the K Club nod. Lehman's simple jingoism would be better suited to a state-side audience, especially when it is neatly punctured by Faldo's droll asides.

From whom?

When they announced Woosnam captain for the 2006 event they took the unprecedented step of announcing Faldo captain for the 2008 event at Valhalla

I would choose Woosie for the "Last Man Standing" after downing rounds of shooters, but never for the Ryder Cup.
