"The US Open is lost, never won?"
More than any other golf tournament I'm aware of this remark was apropos yesterday.
When one considers just what happened to at least six contenders in not just the last 3-4 holes but on the last hole yesterday it becomes almost stranger than fiction.
The commentators did say that Furyk might end up regretting missing that rather short last putt he had but at that point, even I could not imagine that it might actually turn out to be true.
There are probably 6-7 US Open competitors today who are reflecting in quiet agony on what might have so easily been.
