Me and my friend Mike from Madison are in.  Let me know if we can fit in with one of the existing groups or if we need to make our own time.

Dave, depending on how many you bring, Dan and/or his friend could go with your 2:50 or the 3:20.  Are you driving from Chi the night before or that morning?  Can you drive anywhere within that tangled  jungle of broken concrete and rebar?   ::)  Cut up 894 past the zoo to 41, instead of through downtown Milw.  It is just as bad there as Chi town.

I'm bumping this thread up to make sure we have enough tee times to match who is attending.  Please look at this and speak up if you are in but don't see your name on the list.  Dave, did you get 2 more guys to accompany you?

2:50  Dave and friend Mike, who else?
3Pm:  Peter, MIke and son, and me (1 foursome)
3:10  Evan, Brad, Jeff G, Jeff S.? (2nd foursome)
3:20  Phil McDade, my buddy Randy and Jerry, Dan (3rd foursome)

Please, if anyone else is jumping on board, make a tee time.  The 3:20 group should just finish at dusk.  So, if you need another tee time, make it for earlier than Shivas.

PS, edit:

I'm noticing, I haven't accounted for Dan's friend Mike.  So we need to know for sure about Dave Schmidt's group at 2:50.  If he hasn't filled the foursome, we are still in good shape.  Otherwise, we need to regroup here and add one more tee time.

I'm plannining to drive to Madison Tuesday after work to stay with my friend Mike.  We will head to Lawsonia in the am to take advantage of the all day rate in case anyone wants to join us for another 18 or more if its not too hot.  Mike is a 11-12 and I'm a 4-5 if that helps in putting groups together.

We are staying for steaks, craic and discussion of Lawsonia and Langford.     ;D

So far, this all sounds like it will work out for matching tee times.  Someone can jump into the 2 empty slots at 2:50 and if yet another extra shows up, we can cover him too at 2:50.

So, anyone else reading this thread and wants to get in on this, you need to make your own tee extra tee time on the web site or call.

I'm bumping this up again because Evan and Jeff Shelman have notified that they have to drop out.  So.... here is what we have so far.

2:50  Dave and friend Mike, my pal Randy, extra slot for one.
3Pm:  Peter, MIke and son, and me, foursome.
3:10  Brad S, Jeff G, my pal Jerry extra slot open.
3:20  Phil McDade,  Dan  Moore and his friend Mike, extra slot open.

Have I forgotten anyone?  Please respond so we can notify Lawsonia of the pairings, incase they have a policy to fit singles in unfilled 4somes.  Maybe Jeff Penkwitz can tell us if they generally do that.  It would be great if we could russle up some other GCA locals.

Dave, can you IM me or call 920-336-2556

RJ,

Sounds great.  Thanks for pulling this together.

Depending on the forecast, my friend Mike and I will be driving up from Madison early with the intent of playing at least 36 if anyone wants to join us.  If possible Mike will need a ride back to Madison after dinner.

Upon further review...I'M IN!!!!

Based on some recent job changes (and the fact that I am currently temporarily retired, more to follow on that later) I have some extra time and a kitchen pass, so I'm coming up on Wednesday!

I'll take my 3:10 tee time slot back so I can play with my buddy Jeff and with Brad S for the first time.

Is that okay?

That sounds great Ev.  My wife mentioned my upcoming trip at a family picnic today.  We may have another person joining us... subject to  if Jeff wrangles one or two more.

2:50  Dave and friend Mike, my pal Randy, extra slot for one.
3Pm:  Peter, MIke and son, and me, foursome.
3:10  Brad S, Jeff G, Evan Fleisher, my pal Jerry.
3:20  Phil McDade,  Dan  Moore and his friend Mike, extra slot open.

Jeff, please let us know if you russle up those others.  Then with those two, the boat will be full for the the times we have.

We might want to rearrange the tee off times depending on skills and if there are one of two threesomes to figure out which combos will play more efficiently than others to keep a good pace going.  It is a good bet that guys like Brad and Dave will take 20+ more strokes than say me and ...?  ;) ;D

Unfortunately, I got e-mail today that Dave Schmidt can't come due to issues at work.  He is going to contact his friend Mike to see if he still wants to come.  Perhaps if Mike is still in, he could share a ride with Jeff Goldman and/or his possible guests.  They'll have to work that out amongst themselves.

As it stands, here is what the times have become:

2:50  Possibly Dave's friend Mike, my pal Randy, my pal Jerry, extra slot or two depending on Mike.
3Pm:  Peter, MIke and son, and me, foursome.
3:10  Brad S, Jeff G, Evan Fleisher,
3:20  Phil McDade,  Dan  Moore and his friend Mike, extra slot open.

Jeff Goldman had mentioned some extra possibilities.  I haven't heard from my wife's relative...  So, we should keep the 2:50 tee time until tomorrow.  Then, if no one else comes, we will give up the 2:50 time and make it as follows:

3Pm:  Peter, MIke and son, and me, foursome.
3:10  Brad S, Jeff G, Evan Fleisher, my friend Randy.
3:20  Phil McDade,  Dan  Moore and his friend Mike, my friend Jerry.

It is getting a bit complicated, laddies.... ;) ;D ::)

Ok, now Dave has told me that Mike, his friend is out.  This is last call until this afternoon for Jeff Goldman to inform if his bro in law or nephew are coming.  If they are not, DAVE WILL CALL TO CANCEL THE 2:50.   ;D

The times will settle as:

3Pm:  Peter, MIke and son, and me, foursome.
3:10  Brad S, Jeff G, Evan Fleisher, my friend Randy.
3:20  Phil McDade,  Dan  Moore and his friend Mike, my friend Jerry.

Very much looking forward to seeing everybody.  I plan to get to Lawsonia about 2pm'ish, and I plan to head to dinner afterwards with whomever can stick around--count me in...

Now if we can get the weather to co-operate...

Bump!

For those wondering...YES...we got together for our little Peter Herreid sponsored outing yesterday at Lawsonia.  It was hotter than h...well you know where...just ask Dick Daley!  :o

Ten of us braved the scorcing temps and humidity and a good time was had by all...we even had a really nice dinner afterwards at JT Skewers up the road.

I have a few pics to post, which I'll do tomorrow before I leave for Cleveland, and I know others will post as well.  We have a nice group shot, some good "ground" pics, and even a hawk or two (you'll see!)

As for the course...so many ask "is it REALLY all that good?"...and I believe the concensus answer from our group would be a resounding "YES!".  Put this one down in my top-5 all-world affordable/great places to play golf...just $32 after 2:00pm to walk...how much better than that can you get?

Green surfaces are being expanded, conditions were a bit soft on/around the greens, and trees are scarce at best...just awesome stuff.

Twice in a six-year span is simply not enough for this gem...gotta hurry back up there again soon!

Pics to follow shortly...

It was great to place faces with familiar names, and see old friends again.  No doubt it was hot, as Dick nearly got Cirba'd on the 11th hole.  It certainly was a multiple shirt day, and no space-age synthetic material could've handled the perspiration competition between myself and Dick.
Lawsonia Links, well, what more needs to be said.  It is all that and then some.  The more I play there the better I appreciate Langford's craftmanship.  I noticed that between my last round there last June and this round that the greens are being mowed all the way out to the irrigation heads, which is a good thing.  Although not playing prototypical "firm and fast" through the green, the course wasn't chocolate pudding by any stretch.  If it were only a bit closer to Madison I'd be up there on a regular basis.  It certainly would be a great place for a sanctioned GCA gathering  with several other interesting courses within striking distance.

I kept the photog gear in the car until after our round, but I would be delinquent in my GCA duties without a posting a pic.

Here's the 240yd 10th

Cheers,
Brad

Well Ed, for those with deep pockets, the courses at Kohler aren't too far (65 miles).  Erin Hills will be open soon (similar distance?).  Nicklaus' The Bull, not to mention some hidden jem-esque private clubs.  Milwaukee is 90 miles or so if you are fortunate enough to gain access to Colt and Alison's Milwaukee CC.  Dick and others have better knowledge of the less obvious than do I.  Ed, try to get 36 in at Lawsonia if at all possible, you won't regret it.

Cheers,
Brad

Back:  Dick Daley's pal Jerry, Dick, Dick's pal Randy, Phil McDade, Dan Moore, my friend Mike and Brad Swanson
Front Evan Fleisher, Peter Herreid and Mike McGuire.

Dick Daley's tees off on 1.  It must run in the "family."  :D

I'll sort through my pics and put some more up later including some of the improvements they are working on.

Brad,
You can count on 36 holes at Lawsonia. I haven't waited this long to see it to only golf 18. :) Forget the private stuff, I'm on this trip with my brother. What $60 and under hidden gems are between Lawsonia and Chicago?

It looks too good to be true.  I'm trying to limit my must-play list (U.S.), but I have to put Lawsonia on there.  When will I be anywhere near Wisconsin . . .

Ed:

Two favorites perhaps worth your consideration:

-- Old Hickory, a few miles east of Beaver Dam on Highway 33. An old Tom Bendelow nine-holer from 1920 that went to 18 holes in the early 1960s. On a great piece of land -- rolling terrain, traditional tree-lined fairways, some really good par 4s and a great roller-coaster of a closing par 5 18th. About an hour south of Lawsonia; they have a website and have been advertising some pretty good mid-week discounts.

-- Kettle Moraine, very near the Kettle Moraine State Forest west of Milwaukee and east of Madison. About 7 miles south of I-94 on Highway 67, near the little town of Dousman. A course I've never seen discussed here on GCA, and a true hidden gem. Self-built by its owner, it has a few quirky holes, but almost all are solid, and the topography is quite good and scenic. It, too, has a website for pricing.

A few quick photos as promised...I'll skip my group shot since Dan posted one already.

How can you NOT love the par-3 7th with this green complex?  My tee shot landed all the way at the bottom of said hill (on the right) near the cart path.  One superbly executed flop shot later (surprise, surprise Huckaby!) and I walked off with a kick-in par.

I call this shot the "Hawk Hole"...this little bugger just that there (un-intimidated by us humans) whilst we approached and then tee'd off, only flinching when Mr. Swanson took a crack at the ball.

Tee shot...look out Hawk!
