Lawsonia Links--7/26/2006 afternoon
« on: June 12, 2006, 12:57:10 PM »
Hi all!

A small, but loyal contingent of Wisconsin GCA'ers (Dick Daley, Mike McGuire and son, and me) will be playing the Links Course at Lawsonia at 3pm on Wednesday, July 26th...

As of today, there were plenty of tee times immediately before and after this time, so if any of the rest of the local GCA'ers would like to join up with us, the more the merrier...Perhaps we can have a quick dinner afterwards (or lunch before) as well.

You can make tee times directly at www.lawsonia.com, but I can certainly help co-ordinate as necessary...

I'm jealous, and you will be playing on my birthday no less. :'(
Have a great time. Lawsonia is in my top 3 of courses I want to see at this point.

Brad, with all this time away from golf, just think how clear and unfettered your mind will be.  No evil swing thoughts, just hit it! ;D You gotta do it man! 8)

Things are changing (work-wise) for me here in Dubuque, and I may have some SIGNIFICANT time-off this summer.  :o ???

So...would potentially be interested in this gathering.  Can some one please IM or Email me with more details and how many are "in" at this point?  Don't want to be a "fifth wheel", but if a second foursome is developing, than I may entertain driving up and joining in.

I could possibly stop by Brad's and get him on the way up?!?!?

Gentlemen...just joined GCA.

I was Director of Golf at Lawsonia from 1992-2004.  Now own a restaurant just down the road...JT Skewers.  See the website at www.jtskewers.com.  Maybe a perfect place for dinner after?   I know a little about the facility. :)

Evan et al.,
I'm leaning toward dusting off the sticks for this event.  IM me if you would like to coordinate an additional tee time.  I bet we could easily fill another 4-some if not more (including, hopefully, the former D.O.G. whose name I cannot place :-[).  I may even hit the range the next few weeks to make sure I don't embarass myself.  ;)

Cheers,
Brad

Welcome to GCA.  Would love your insight on some of the work at Lawsonia over the last few years.  I was there in late May and the course was as good as I can remember.

I visit Green Lake at least once a year and will definitely check your new place out on my next visit.  I'd love to join this group but a midweek day will be tough.

Brad,

I shall contact you in the next few days...let me talk to the wife about it.

Jeff Shelman said he might be interested also...this thing could be shaping up!

JT Skewers sounds like a good dining option as well.

Just checked the on-line tee time system for Lawsonia, and plenty of availability that afternoon, so the more the merrier!  Sounds like we have a great post-round dinner option...

Hope to see lots of us there!

If we come up with an odd number, not divisable by 4, I'm sure I can find a last minute tag-along from here locally to fill any foursome.  It is great to have Jeff on board at GCA.com.  We can all hang out at his establishment and pick his brain on what he knows about Lawsonia and Quic Qui Oc and other hidden gem notables from around the mid-dairyland. ;) ;D

Guys,

Sounds like a great time to make my annual pilgrimmage, and my calendar looks clear, so if there's room in the 2nd (or 3rd) foursome, put me down.

Peter, MIke and son, and me (1 foursome)
Evan, Brad, Jeff G, Jeff P.? (2nd foursome)

watch this space... ;D

Dick,

Also (for now) add Jeff Shelman, and a newcomer named Phil McDade who is a lurker (not a poster).  This is getting to be a good sized group!

Jill and I are talking about taking the kids to the Dells for a few days before, and after the golf she will leave with the girls and head straight for Cleveland and Grandma's house and I'll head home for a few days before flying out to meet them.

More to follow on that part of the deal, but for now book me in!

I have one more time booked at 3:10.  I expect we will finish before dark or else... >:(  Then on to Jeff Penkwitz's restaurant where we will disect the course architecture and channel Langford after some refreshments. ;D  Dave, you make another tee time if you are coming.  I'm off to men's club but will check in later...

I originally thought this was a Wednesday.  I am rethinking. Maybe drive up after work on Wednesday to take advantage of the $99 all day rate on Thursday.

Damn.   8) >:(

I'll see what I can do anyway.    :)

Anyone aware of Langford courses in Wisconsin besides Lawsonia, West Bend, Ozaukee and Spring Valley?  I've seen references to a nine holer, Leathem Smith Lodge in Sturgeon Bay, but never have been able to get any information on it and assume it no longer exists.

Does anyone know if Erin Hills will be open yet at this point? Might be fun to play an afternoon at Lawsonia and the next morning at the new Erin Hills.

Back from men's club with half a package on...  :P ;D

The new GCA guy, Phil McDade wrote me e-mail to say he has another tee time set aside at 3:20.  That should be about it for the latest to finish before dark.  Anyone else should try to get tee times closest to 3Pm before the hour.  I spoke to some local yokels I know that are now trying to get me to go in the morning to play the Woodlands course with a cart, then do the links.

Let's see what we got so far...
3Pm:  Peter, MIke and son, and me (1 foursome)
3:10   Evan, Brad, Jeff G, Jeff S.? (2nd foursome)
3:20  Phil McDade, my buddy Randy and Jerry, Dan (?)

Shivas and his crew need to weigh in if they are getting a tee time, and how many.

Possible morning round: Me, Randy, Jerry, (?)
We'll probably play the Woodlands course, although if I can talk the boys into it, we'll go around Links twice...  But, the Woodlands isn't bad, just more cartball and well... woodlands... ::)

Dan, I don't know of any more Langford except I was suspicious that Langford may have done the second 9 at Quic Qui Oc.  Penkwitz can set us straight on that.  Otherwise, there are several Bendelows in the area...

dinner and drinks, everyone (?) ;D

Wow,

Sounds like you guys are almost set.   Wish I could join you, but it sounds like a better stock the coolers and bring some of my old scrapbooks.

As far as other Langford work, I'm only aware of a few holes at Westmoor  CC in Milwaukee.   I believe he redesigned 4 or 5 holes on the back nine.  Quit Qui Oc's front 9 was a Bendelow, but the back nine was designed by the owners...Wiese family.

Old Hickory's front nine  in Beaver Dam is a Bendelow...so similar to QQO's front nine.

Woodlands is a good track...wound be a good morning round.  Alot of interesting work going on at Tuscumbia in Green Lake.  Lots of tree removal which has improved the original layout.

Personally....Links twice would be my preference.

Cheers

Jeff
