Like every other course today, the par-3's will be the toughest challenge at Winged Foot.  They are the only holes where players have to hit more than a 7-iron into the green.  Although, I guess the deep rough is not so much in play.

Nothing has changed, the greens, and the rough, were the most difficult features back in 74...and will be next week.

No.

None of the par fives usually play over par, so they should be made mroe challenging.  The par-3's are already serving there purpose.  The holes that already challenege are not the holes that need the most design.  The holes that do not present a big challenge are the ones that need more time and importance, IMO.

In terms of a stroke competition, any intrinsic challenge a hole presents is irrelevant. The challenge comes in a player's attempt to match, or better, what all the other competitors are doing on that particular hole. If a par 5 is playing "easy" for the field, say, a half-stroke under par, then if a player pars that hole he has not met the challenge for that particular hole on that particular round.
