Lido Competition for Armchair Architects

Here it is:

So all YOU have to do is compete with your fellow amateur course designers and create an imaginary par 4 hole that is strategic in its design and follows the design principles that Dr. MacKenzie developed over the years and shared in his writings. NOTE: Golf course architects who have previously designed a course that exists or is under construction are not eligible to compete.

If the latter rule had been in effect in 1914, Dr. MacKenzie would have been ineligible.

When it comes to a similarity of designing something on paper versus what it looks like and plays like in reality was completely blown away by that diagram versus the real hole of Donald Steel's 18th at Carnegie Abbey, in my opinion.

That hole is a good reason not to depend on diagrams for the essence or even the understanding of a golf hole.  ;)

"Finally, the winner will receive a cash stipend that he or she can use to accept an invitation from the Society to attend its annual meeting, which in 3006, will be held near Santa Barbara, CA, at the Valley Club of Montecito."

I don’t know if I will be available at that time.

The Valley Club is worth a 1,000 year wait.
