time to vote: furrowed bunkers, yes or no?
« on: June 05, 2006, 09:21:41 AM »
should the tour keep using them?

Bonus question:  should ALL courses start to use them??
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

Yes and Yes, they're more effective as hazards than what we now have in America.

Yes for the tour.

Hopefully, other courses will follow their lead as this is one of the better things they are doing for the game of golf.

Seems like a better way to protect par at Tour events than other more expensive items.  Jack should get some kudos for trying it.

I will use this as an example for a current client concerned with maintenance costs to eliminate raking altogether for the small pot bunkers I plan.  We will see if the idea catches on as a maintenance saving practice.

I didn't get to see a whole lot of the Memorial coverage but the shot Mickelson hit on Sunday from a fairway bunker explained alot. Hitting a huge hook just so he could swing down the rake line...

Yes and Yes...although no rakes wouldn't be bad either...

Yes for any course that wants to go that way.

Fine by me to go furrowed everywhere so yes and yes.  The bunkers are supposed to be hazards.  PGATour.com reports that the season sand save percentage (on the PGA Tour) is 49.1% while it was "only" 43.8% at the Memorial.  So while nearly all of them were unhappy about the rakes, it appears the furrows didn't bother the tour guys nearly as much as most expected.

Depends on the course.  What about "transition areas?"  Would you like to see furrows here?

Maybe it didn't bother their percentage as much as we all thought. But based on Scott at No.5 they have to be accounted for and this will have a trickle down effect om strategy because a big number can happen now. Not before.

I agree that the "big number" potential is certainly increased with the furrowed bunkers.

This is what I think makes it just perfect for the tour and all of tournament golf. The possibility is there.
