Just Getting Started

None of these are particularly novel thoughts, but here is my list:

-  attempting to control the seemingly uncontrollable
-  the long shadows of an early morning or later afternoon round
-  rounds with my dad, and the look on his face when he pulls of a quality shot that, unfortunately, used to be common but is becoming anything but
-  the hope that my now 21 mos. old daughter will enjoy the game as much as I do and that we will be able to play together until I can no longer walk (if she doesn't that is fine, too)
-  oh, sinking a 20 footer on 18, before a relatively large gathering of people, to shoot 79 on my first - and thus far only - round on The Old Course (sorry, had to add this one)

Everyone has said it before, but the way a good shot feels and looks while in the air, is simply amazing, because it is so hard for me to do consistently. Last week I had the opportunity to play for the first time this year and did amazingly well. My knee held up for the most part despite the Glen Arbour hills and my clubs served me well, especially on the back 9. I hit a pure Nickent Ironwood 3-hybrid to 18 inches at the 180-yd par-3 13th and tapped in for birdie, then went to the tee of the par-5 14th and swung my new Cobra F-Speed driver to deliver a beautiful drive with a slight draw that just stayed in the air forever. Same thing on 18. Can't beat the feeling.

Recovery shots and trying to save par!!!

Same here, definitely!!

I simply LOVE the challenge of saving par after hitting a less-than-spectacular approach.

It never gets me down, instead, I look at it as an opportunity to show off my short game! :-)

The constant battle with one's self to play as well as you think you should but rarely do.

Playing early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the course is empty and the air is crisp.
