Re:Most underwhelming 'great' hole

Don't really know that this qualifies as "great," but the downhill par-3 at Atlanta Country Club (#13) once had quite a rep.  After that, maybe before, there was this outbreak of par-3's with dramatic drops.

Although.. #13 at ACC is the best one of the genre I have played.

Gary:

A friend of mine discovered a serious design flaw in the 13th hole at Atlanta Country Club.  Apparently, a misplayed shot can ricochet off the covered bridge and drop in the hole!

I was most underwhelmed by the 17th at Pebble.

Which is the hole which left you most underwhelmed. I.e. you were anticipating great things, due to a big reputation, but left you feeling let down.

For me it was 17 at Pebble Beach. On the tee, I just couldn't believe this was the same hole you see on the TV. The hole seemed to lack any definition.

I completely and totally agree. Not even close to a great hole, IMHO, because visually it's such a blah shot.

Is it difficult? Absolutely!
Is it history-laden? Absolutely!
Is it visually appealing? In my mind, NO.

Tom J,

Any opinion on #18 at Torrey Pines South?

That is nowhere near a great hole, IMHO.

Any hole with an "artificial lake thingy" (as I like to call them)is disqualified.
