Merchantville Country Club

This nine holer across the river from Philly intrigues me to no end (along with Phoenixville Country Club). The topo is interesting and the course has some bold holes.

Anybody out there familiar with the history and pedigree? It claims to be the 10th oldest course in the United States.

Kyle:

Take a look. 9 holes on 40 acres. Unknown architect:

Kyle:  I can see why.  Looks very interesting .  How about that long dogleg top right!  The green bottom right almost looks like a Biarritz don't you think?

Tom,

I see what you mean. The par 3 just across the road also looks like it could be either an Eden or a Redan.

The course at one point in time had 13 greens, with two greens serving four holes to make for a more interesting second time around. I can only see two holes with two greens on today's aerial from google.

oops!  It must be a little early.  I thought that was a continuous hole at top.  See what you mean about that par 3.

Kyle:  I spoke to the golf staff @ Merchantville and they said a Golf Professional in Philly  Section and someone @ Temple had done some research on the designer but came up so far with nothing but the original members doing it.
