Many new courses recently opened here.  Has anyone heard any early reviews of:

Gasparilla
Concession
Founders Club
Longboat Key Harbourside (redone)
Ritz-Carlton
Laurel Oak West
Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville

Mitch, do you know who was responsible for the work at Laurel Oak and the Harbourside course?

The Ritz Carlton was favorably commented upon earlier by someone (sorry, my memory fails me).

Laurel Oak was redone by Rees Jones as the club decided to keep up with the Jones2 course at Founders, the Fazio at Ritz and the Nicklaus at Concession. Competition will do that.

I like Chip Powell's Venetian GC in South Sarasota.

Mark Cardon of the Sarasota Herald usually reviews courses:

Steve, I recall Whitten writing a nice review of the Venetian as well.

Any idea what Rees did at Laurel Oak?  It's been some years, but the course used to have some clunker/dull holes, though in fairness it also had some good ones.

Ron Whitten's review was praiseworthy of Venetian. This course is overlooked and deserves much more review.

Rees Jones did a total renovation of the West at Laurel Oak. I haven't played there.

Gasparilla is the name of a funky, old and exclusive club on Boca Grande.  Surely they haven't remodeled?

Sad to report that I understand Gasparilla was remodeled by none other than Pete Dye about 2 years ago. Very low profile club. Guests of the Gasparilla Inn have golfing privileges.

I played Gasparilla many times but not in the last ten years.  I hope Dye didn't go over the top in the remodel because I always liked it the way it was.

The Concession is incredible. Nicklaus used over 500 acres of land for the routing. The conditioning is impeccable and the variety of holes excellent. If the opportunity arises The Concession is a Must Play!

Thanks Steve

Not that sad news as the course was really more goofy than funky.  I remember the par-4 coming back to the Inn which you could drive if you bombed it over the outdoor patio where the ladies who lunch were picking at their key lime pies....

My sister has a condo down there so maybe I'll give it another shot next time I'm in the 'hood. :)

Steve, I do look forward to playing the Venetian someday. Any idea how well it has been received in the area? I gather you are a local?

I very much liked Venetian.  It didn't garner that many accolades, but is an underrated course, firm/fast when I played it.  Great green complexes.
