.

RDC looks glorious with the heather in bloom...

JWK

Thanks, James

PS--that is the gorse in bloom, not the heather.  There is very little heather on Dornoch (or any links course).  When it does bloom (in late summer, on the higher land (e.g. 7 and 17 at RDGC)) it is a wonderful purple.

Rich,

Is Glasgow Gailes a links course? If it is, it has more heather just off the fairways than any county in Scotland. I found the course much tougher to play than Western G. solely due to the inability to escape the stuff  when slightly offline.

Bob

Glasgow Gailes is a links.  Being more inland/upland than Western Gailes it has more heather.  You are right that heather is VERY hard to extricate oneself from.  A bit like iceplant with a soupcon of subtlety....

We had a wonder (very wet at times) day yesterday.

The is a renewed (rather "new") pride being taken by the Scott's staff as they see the improved areas of the course - I think this will continue.

Yes there is a plan - and not the usual Master Plan - but a plan to continue the ongoing process.

His budget is a quite good and has incentives built into it so there will be continuing funding as these major improvements show results.

The intended SCALE of this great courses is now much more reflective of the property it is on.  This is key.

Most (all?) of the tree work was jobbed to a sub-contractor - a good sub-contractor. There is no way you can do 1500 trees, and counting, in house.

Sorry for the delay posting pictures but now have a the new pictures I wanted, so stay tuned.

Even though the greens were wet they were rolling wonderfully and the conditions throughout the course is good. It no longer looks like a beat up muni it looked like a number of years ago.

If a player insists on playing his maximum power on his tee-shot, it is not the architect's intention to allow him an overly wide target to hit to but rather should be allowed this privilege of maximum power except under conditions of exceptional skill.
