Originality
« on: May 08, 2006, 12:09:47 PM »
Is what makes courses so good their originality??

Is that also why rankings turn out so poorly sometimes?

You cannot really take a course like say, Augusta National and rate it agaisnt, say Shinnecock Hills simply because they are so different.

But, is what makes these courses so different what is so good about them??

Amen corner on Augusta, 15-17 at CPC, and everything about every course that is original and different is what makes a course so good, correct??

If originality makes a course good, why arent we seeing courses with more originality??

Not necessarily. The International- first course to go over 8000-original, but it is still not any good. Those tour 18 courses are 'original' in thought, but they still are awful. Desert golf was to some degree original and nothing earth -shattering has co0me out of the desert, not really anyway. Trees in the middle of fairways has become popular, but I still hate it.
