I always considered the left hand inclined part of the "old" Eden green (now flattened) was meant to be used as a "kicker" to divert the ball on landing from the left to the centre and right of the green around the Strath Bunker.
Particularly with the prevailing wind from the South West and applying a cut fade shot.
It was never meant to be a pinning area.
