CC of Charleston

The club has hired Brian Silva to do work, probably old news to some, and I was told that the majority of the work will be on the greens and tees.
Ran wrote in his review that you'll find the holes you'd expect to find on a Raynor course but the terrain at CC of C is rather flat. Is the proposed work a necessary rehab, a restoration, or does the club feel the need to modernize, to some extent, what Raynor built in order to add some pizazz?

Jim,
I've spoken with the superintendent and will be going up to Charleston to see the ongoing work sometime soon. It is my understand that the course is going to be updated, not modernized. Tees and greens will be resurfaced and some lost features restored, along with a new irrigations system.

Man, I hope they don't get too carried away.   I don't know about the turf quality on the greens, but I hope that resurfacing doesn't lead to recontouring or softening.  I can see some minor stuff, maybe a few more back tees where there is room.  Perhaps they have some drainage swales and problem areas in FWs.  But, those green pads and surrounds are pretty great, and maybe some have minor areas at the edges to reclaim.

Just to mention a few features that jump to my mind, are the green contours, soap dishes, slightly off theme holes that aren't strictly the template holes, aligator eye bunkers, the double plateau greens, the Lion's mouth 16th, Reverse Redan-knoll like 11th, Short 17th, Edenlike 3rd...

I know I'd love to have a membership there if I lived in Charleston.  It is a really fine course and the club composition looks very appealing.

I believe Jay Flemma met with Brian Silva the day after playing The Ocean Course with me.  He said Brian was going to give him a walk-through of the changes to the course.  I"m sure he'll chime in soon to discuss what's going on there...

Tony,
That's encouraging to hear. RJ seems pretty high on the course, at least it sounds that way from his post. I've never been there but it sounds like (from reviews) and looks like (at least from what one can glean from photos) a course worth caring about.
Probably a biased view on my part.

Thanks for the info.
