Hugh Heffner, yes, he of that esteemed glossy magazine, has a bit to answer for. His articles got everyone thinking in terms of "length" at all costs. I'm not sure if HH's relaxation time includes golf, but he's somehow left his mark on our great game.  :D

I'm all for an occasional par 3 where most pro's cannot hit iron.  Adjust the required distance of that hole to the conditions.  At altitude, e.g. in Colorado, that might mean close to 300 yards.
