i played it about 8 years ago, and remember it being a very reasonably priced public course.  several holes play along an ocean cliff that must be 100 feet above the sea.

It isn't a public course. Just that most private clubs in Australia allow unaccompanied visitors on a number of days, some more than others.

Costs nowadays around the equivalent of $US25 on weekdays, $US30-35 on weekends.

As a Sydneysider, it's a course I have only played once, not because it's hard to get on, but because it's not that good. The views are lovely, but even in a golfing wilderness like Sydney, it would struggle to rate in the top 20 within the city limits.

I figured since I hadn't heard of it before, it wasn't highly thought of, which is a shame considering it's location.  A re-design by any of a number of architects (Mike Clayton is an Aussie and worked on Barnbougle) could make it world-class perhaps.

The site is more restricted due to size than other seaside spots that more could be done to. I'd rather see what Clayton could do with a place like The Coast (one of the three courses including New South Wales that run alongside each other on the ocean south of the city), than constrict him to this more limited site (in size and interest). But sure, it would benefit greatly, and a lot more than it did from the lesser work it had done on it last decade.

Tony,

Unfortunately, The Coast is a little restricted for space these days as well. Especially since the housing development started where the old hospital once was. They now have a new 10th & a redesigned playing angle on the dogleg 11th. They are both horrid, with the 11th possibly being the worst hole I have ever seen, which is a shame, because the rest of the course, although not great, is pleasant enough to play.
