George Carlin, GCA Critic
« on: April 17, 2006, 10:59:53 PM »
Here's a beaut from old George Carlin, iconoclast-in-charge:

"The arrogant nature of golf is evident in the design and scale of the game.  Think of how big a golf course is.  It's huge; you can't see one end of it from the other.  But the ball is only an inch and a half in diameter.  So will someone please explain to me what these pinheaded pricks need with all that land?"

 ::) ::) ::)

What the hell does George know?  He doesn't even know the golf ball is 1.68 inches, he thinks it's 1.5 inches!  :P

Is this a prevailing attitude amongst non-golfing iconoclasts?

Take away 'F**K from his show and it would be pretty boring.

He has to simplify for his audience. Gallagher likewise.

As usual, old George is very perceptive.  Why indeed do we need all this land?  Why did Nickalus' "Cayman ball" project fail?  Why did we have to disfigure all of those fine ~6000 yard Old Tom Morris layouts at the start of the last century?  Why are we now building courses of 7500-8000 yards?

I can think of a one word answer:  testosterone.

PS--There has never been a better description of the difference between baseball and football than Carlin's.  He may say f**k too often for Bob's liking, but he's still one of the funniest and most lateral thinking comedians in the world.

George Carlin??

Oh yeah, I remember that guy. The old hippie who could critiicize anything and everything about the White Man. He's dogmeat, passe now. Chris Rock is the new guy on the block now. He criticizes anything and everything about the Black Man. It's taking time but we're getting closer to a land of equal opportunity every day.  ;)

George Carlin is the most angry, bitter, and self-righteous comedian I have ever seen.

He bores me .....and I'm liberal.

George Carlin

I'd definitely take his advice on drugs, if that's what I were after, he'd give better advice than Consumer Rports, no? ;) .

As an observational comic he tries to find the humor or make fun of  day-to-day activities that we don't look at the absurditis or ironies about.

In a way he's on our side, saying that too much land is used for golf courses and he's right.  A dialed-back ball would reduce the size of teh playing field.  :-X

Dear George:

The ball may be small, but when you hit it with a 460 cc titanium-headed driver with a 44-inch x-flex graphite shaft, it can got up to 400 yards, depending on who's swinging the club.

Thus the need for all that land, asswad.

Glad to help.
