Topo mapping

Slightly o/t, yet this does refer to a new golf course project which several of us have started to work on...

Does anyone know of a website which has the ability to produce a topographical map in, say, 1- or 2-meter contour line intervals? This is in reference to a project in Canada, and the only mapping supplied by the federal government is in 10-meter intervals, hardly worthwhile for a golf course architect to look at.

You'd think with all of the Google technology out there on the www, that there's a place where one could find such mapping available.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks guys.

JJ,

Here in the US, I have never found a reliable source on the WWW to produce topo in the form you or I would require, except on occasion for some digital mapping produced from overlapping aerial work for utility and roadway projects.  Normally, to acquire the info you need and at an accuracy level required, the client pays for it and provides it to the architect.  I have to believe that you could contact a few of the golf architects in Canada for leads on such services, or perhaps they may even know a source on the WWW that could offer topo which could at least serve well enough for planning/routing needs.

JJ,

Here's a link to a thread I started awhile ago.  It's about topo maps, but not web-based ones.  Canadian though.
Check it out here.
Hope it's of some help.
