PGA Event Before a Major!
« on: April 01, 2006, 08:24:43 PM »
Over the last five years the PGA Tour has tried to set up thier tournament conditions before each major just as the major conditions would be. For instance,TPC at Sugarloaf goes from years of having dormant zoysiagrass as it's rough to now having overseeded ryegrass but the height being kept at Augusta type height. The week before at TPC Sawgrass the height was 4-6" easily. My question is this. Is the PGA Tour forgetting how each golf course was meant and designed to play to try to create someting that it isn't?

They are trying to get the top players to show up for the event.  It's not easy to get the big names to show up the week before a major, but it's far more feasible if the course conditions resemble what they'll see the following week.
