tournament architecture vs. acreage, no takers?

A post in Doak's top 50 courses thread as prompted me to ask this question.  To hold a PGA tournament, is design more important than acreage or vis versa?  Many golf courses have held tournaments that are not great designs but have the acreage to hold the tournament.  So which is it?

Troy its really both ....a course definitely has to have the hospitality acreage on site....space for on site parking is a plus but can be arranged on a off site shuttle basis.

I would imagine the TPC at Scottsdale. With over 500,000 guests I can't think of many other Golf courses around Phoenix that could accommodate that amount of people. And the course is average at best.

There are varying levels of architectural quality required (that level is different for the different organizing bodies), that once met becomes secondary to acreage concerns. Along witht he acreage concerns, I assume we are to include facilities considerations.
