I started the Ault/ Clark thread for a friend. Now he looks so intelligent they have put him on the green cmte.

He asked me to ask this question.

I think they are looking for a restoration master plan not a renovation one.

Go to:

www.donaldrosssociety.org and print up the Restoration Guidelines. They may well assist you.

Next to you Mike, everyone looks intelligent  ;)

Have him call me, I can tell your buddy how Tom and I approached the subject in great detail.  I'll show him our methodology and let him decide for himself and his club if it is an appropriate process.

But for a successful Ross restoration they should look nearby at LuLu and talk to the guys that ran the process internally.  Steve Sayers I'm sure would be glad to help out.

 Wayne,

I'll consider that a fine compliment. If those next to me look intelligent than I have acheived my goal. Don't you feel intelligent when you are with me?

"Don't you feel intelligent when you are with me?"

I feel more intelligent.  I feel intelligent even when I'm not with you  ;)

I'll help.  Restoration is more about process than product sometimes.  In any event, choose someone who will take the necessary steps to do it correctly, which most times is determined by budget, experience of the team and education of the client.

I think they are looking for a restoration master plan not a renovation one.

That's a critical distinction which will probably determine the nature of the questions.

What does the club want to do, restore their golf course or renovate-modernize their golf course ?

More importantly, do they even know what they want to do and why?

Joe Hancock,

Those were my thoughts as well.

If they're searching for the right questions to ask, you have to ask yourself, do they know what they want, for if they did, it would seem that the questions would be self evident.

Pat,

Assume" restore" and then what do you say?

Mayday;

Then tell him to assume restoration. Next he (or somebody) has to do the research to determine what was it then and what is it now? The details are in the differences. It wouldn't hurt for the green committee to state why they want to do a restoration either. Understanding the why, when and how the course changed would help too.

Mayday,

To start with, How familiar are they with the architect whose work they're restoring ?

Secondly, have they done any previous restorations of this architect's work,

Thirdly, what other restoration projects have they been involved with.

The committee should attempt to visit those projects.
