Lederach GC,by Kelly Blake Moran
« on: March 10, 2006, 11:10:32 AM »
The course opens in April and the website is now up:

www.lederachgolfclub.com

I think May or June would be a good time for an outing there to see this new course. Let's get something together.

I see it is managed by Billy Casper Golf. That means Rob Waldron can get us all on for free ;D

When I play a Hanse course I appreciate his sense of humor. It seems from looking at the website and playing Morgan Hill that for Kelly it is -----  his wackiness that I appreciate.

I'd do whatever I could to be a part of a GCA gathering, big or small, at Lederach.

If anyone is interested, please email me at kwh132@gmail.com
I'd be happy to provide the footwork for organizing an event there. I will call the club later this afternoon.

Please email dates available in May or June but not in this thread.

Sad to say I have never been on a KBM course.  I will do all I can to see that changed this year.  I saw Kelly at an HVCC event and admire his dedication to all phases of golf course design and agronomy.  I'll join you if I can, Kyle.  Keep me in mind if it comes together.

I noticed that also - very Lido-ish... Several other darn interesting-looking holes on the diagram also.

You all MUST report after you play - particularly re #3.  If that right-side shortcut is at all viable that is gonna be one fascinating tee shot choice.

#11 looks fun; I love fairway that just keeps on going while the hole has turned.

" #3 looks to be a reverse Lido to me."

How is it a reverse Channel Hole?  It looks like the smaller fairway is on the right as at Lido and the pond looks similarly placed.  Rough before the fairway takes the place of water as at Lido, but they seem similar and not reversed.

MacKenzie book?  Which one is that?  I'll save you the trouble and email you an aerial photo of the hole.

Mike,

I've played Lederach (with Kelly last fall) and you are right it sucks!!  :o

ONLY IF YOU COMPARE IT TO CYPRESS POINT...

Now Trump on the other hand???? ;D

Truth be told, Lederach is an absolutely superb layout over land that was once again dictated by residential development priorities. Kelly is likely earning the "mis" fortune of becoming the reknown expert for building the highest quality public and affordable courses inside otherwise ugly residential development communities. The course has only 1-3 weak or weaker holes, but nearly all of the others are simply wonderous, unique and challenging. The stretch of 13-17 is as good as it gets. If this course were a private track with no residential imposition, the golf world would be abuzz with praise. As usual, the greens range from charming to diabolical (#9) and his liberal use of split fairways and strategic options puts him at the top of the archie class.

Everyone should go see this very special and unique new daily-fee, before it gets crowded.
The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking."--John Kenneth Galbraith
