I know some will say things like, “J.B. Holmes wins in a walk” or “Tiger chipping out every round from trees right of No. 11.”
For me, it comes down to the back nine Sunday. I believe they will have ruined the tournament if it lacks a specific type of excitement, specifically if:
1. There’s not at least five golfers at 5p with a legitimate shot at winning;
2. The winner did not have to mount a charge that “steals” the green jacket;
3. Announcers use the word “grind” more than the word “gamble,” especially in reference to the winner’s strategy; and
4. Retief Goosen gets a jacket to go with all his green pants (usually a lock for a top 5, but obviously never won).
From my perspective, winning "US Open style" ain't gonna cut it!
Any other perspectives?
