Aerial of the Week 5
« on: February 26, 2006, 10:14:47 PM »
As is inevitable during any gathering of Toronto-area GCAers, the name Stanley Thompson was mentioned frequently and reverently on Friday night.  So I thought it was only appropriate to post one of Thompson's courses this week.  Good luck!

OK, I'll narrow it down a bit.  This course is NOT in Canada...

I'm pretty sure it is not in the US. That leaves So. America. Chris, what is this thing you have about So. America?
 ;)

Garland,

I'm trying to be geographically diverse.  That's one of the suggestions I received when I started up this series of threads.

I was originally going to do a different course this week, but I thought the timing was good for a Thompson.

What makes you so sure it's South America?  Don't be too hasty...

It is a constant idea that just keeps springing at me.

Could it be that hope springs eternal that it has been kept in shape?

Tom,

It doesn't sound like it's in great condition.  From a course review/article in the Globe and Mail written by Brian Kendall:

Quote
Opened in 1930, this course is one of the relatively few courses designed outside Canada by Stanley Thompson, the legendary architect of such acclaimed courses as Alberta's Banff Springs and Cape Breton's Highlands Links. Built in the classic style, with tight fairways and greens open at the front, this course climbs into the foothills of the nearby Mountains. Though sadly threadbare in spots, Thompson's 6,196-yard layout presents a challenge at every turn.

A quick question -- Do you suppose Cataraqui could be considered a sister course to this one?
