yep there is a followup:
yes the fair was 2 years - very cool for a 10 yr old
48 guys (48-States) of us stayed at the Horn and Hardart Automat (you young guys have to Google that one) - very cool, u put nickles into a slot for food
ages were from 10- to 14 (and for a 10 year old, that's intimidating)
tournament every morning - then tour the fair in the PM - then every nite they toured us someplace in NY City: Broadway Show (Olson & Johnson - Hell's a Poppin); Dodger-Giant baseball game at the Polo Grounds and we got a signed ball from the Giant team; a dinner with the then heavyweight Champ Jimmy Braddock, if I remember right
there was so much in two weeks I really lost track of a lot of it
boy was that a long time ago, guys
marble format for the tourney: 10-ft pot (the ring - it was huge to me) with 15 marbles spaced in the middle. Just like pool, whoever got 8 marbles out of the ring won .....
for most of you, who don't know "jack" about "real" marbles
- somewhat like pool, if you knocked a marble out of the circle and your "shooter" stayed in the ring, you kept shooting ...etc a miss, and your opponent was up
what a laugh Tommy, you're a jerk
