Cog Hill to receive "Open" Makeover
« on: February 23, 2006, 02:01:25 PM »
Chicago Sun-Times reports on Rees Jones' retention to make changes to Cog Hill following the 2007 Western Open.

Changes to focus on bunkers and changes to final 4 holes.  Frankly 17 is somewhat unremarkable as is and 15 being changed to a par 4 may have been inevitable.

Not sure why 16 and 18 need changes though.

I think Reese Jones' work at Bellerive will have a better chance of getting a U.S. Open vs. Cog Hill.

As much as I would like to see Cog get an Open, I feel they are much too public about their intent. And quite frankly, the course isn't that good.

  Thanks...

I guess on some level it's comforting to know that within a decade or so, God willing, virtually every course that wishes to host a US Open will be virtually indistinguishable from each other.

Sort of the same comfortable "knowing" feeling one gets when they start to channel surf for daytime television options, knowing full well they'll find little of interest.

Dick Wilson will probably turn over in his grave. I always loved Cog Hill :'(
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Sounds like only the "waterfall" will be the ultimate differentiator! ;) ;D ;D
