Shoreacres or the Addington ?
« on: February 08, 2006, 06:53:39 PM »
I know these two courses  are admired by many architecture fans. Im curious about  the relative strengths of each course-what are there similarities and differences. Does one have more strategic interest than the other ?........ Overall, which is more fun to play.  thanks

Alas, I have only played Shoreacres.

Of all of the courses that I have ever played, I rate it as my favorite.  If I could be a member of one club, that would be it.

So if Addington is spoken in the same breath, it must be terrific.

I suspect that only Ran and Tom Doak have seen both of these on GCA (perhaps NAF)?

Me, I'm the opposite to Bill-played Addington not Shoreacres.

If there were degrees of uniqueness that The Addington would be one of the "most unique"!

From Ran's pics in the reviews (which aren't very good for Shoreacres) The Addington looks more dramatic. The ravines (and they really are ravines) come into play on these shots:

6th drive (summer and v long player), approach
8th approach (long you're in a deep ravine)
9th drive over on ravine approach over another(same one?)
10th drive
12th drive for long player, approach
13th tee shot
16th approach
17th tee

So they have to be considered on about 11 shots for the longer player, a couple less for the shorter.

I agree with Mr. Turner and a few others I know that the The Addington has a certain je ne sais quoi uniqueness about it that makes it a special place.  One should attempt to play it when doing the London rounds.
