New Mexico Golf
« on: February 09, 2006, 11:56:38 AM »
Looking to make a trek through New Mexico this summer. Initial plans are to start in Lubbock and then on through New Mexico. Black Mesa and Paa-Ko Ridge will definitely be on the agenda (and maybe Piñon Hills).

#1 - What other courses would you recommend?
#2 - Can you book any of these courses way in advance?

What are your suggestions?

Thanks,
Mark

If you make it to Piñon - I'd suggest Riverview also - Baxter added 9 that are more fun than either 9 at Piñon - I only peeked at the Riverview front - they didn't look as good...

To continue the Baxter Spann trail near Santa Fe - Marty Sanchez - it's good - and the short course - the great 28 (8 par 3s & 1 par 4) - is a highlight - although I've only played the regular 18.

I've only breifly seen Las Campanas and Twin Warriors - both are well regarded.

I assume Adam will chime in soon.

Have fun.
Santa Fe is great too.
We ate at The Shed - casual - and the Pink Adobe - less casual - for the GCA land of enchantment outing a couple of years ago - and enjoyed both very much.
Thinking of Bob, Rihc, Bill, George, Neil, Dr. Childs, & Tiger.

Las Campanas in Santa Fe -- two good Nicklaus courses, a Lyle Anderson community (IE. Desert Mountain) Private but you might be able to play as a guest.

You got my three fave publics...Black Mesa, Pinon Hills and Paako...all are really fun.  Play Paako at least three days.

Watch out for the 15th green!  It slopes away from you into the water!  (I love that feature;))

If you are starting in Lubbock, you better be playing The Rawls Course.

If you are starting in Lubbock, you better be playing The Rawls Course.

That's a given! Current plan is 3 rounds at Rawls before heading west.

I've always liked the UNM Championship Course by Red Lawrence.

Also, the new Sandia Course by Scott Miller looks good. www.sandiagolf.com

I've only played one course in that area, but I certainly do recommend playing Paa-Ko Ridge. Its a wonderful course. UNM-South and the new Sandia course are both ones that I'm looking at upon a possible return trip in May, in addition to hopefully getting on Black Mesa. I'd go back to Paa-Ko too in a heartbeat!

Mark,

I too can recommend UNM South Course.  I haven't been there in ages, since '74, but have good rememberences of this Red Lawrence course.

Perhaps they have heard Matt Ward's requests that they turn down the agua a little bit.
