Farmer in the Dell... err fourth hole?

Mind the 18th hole on the first tee?

Sorry, Kyle, wrong course.  But the holes at this course are named and I suspect that everybody would guess as soon as I revealed their names, so I'll not do it just yet....

Mark.

It's Dollymount.

I don't think there's a whole lot of Colt left...it's be redesigned in a major way by Martin Hawtree.

And, in case Dollymount isn't familiar to you, that's the local name for Royal Dublin.  This card was 2001, so would these distances have been much different pre Hawtree?

I am just wondering how you do the metres-yards conversion?  Are metres about 10% more then yards?  I just was wondering since the yardages were in metres.

The hole names are pretty good:

North Bull, Babington's, Alps, Feather Bed, Valley, Pot, Ireland's Eye, Ben Howth, Davidson's/Marne, Colt's, Campbell's, Dardanelles, Moran's, Hogan's, Dolly, Coastguard's, Garden.

I found it distinctive for the very narrow water ditches throughout the course. The Strovesaver was most useul to plan for them.

I also thought that  it was what I most expected in a links course, understated and out and back.

Jordan, you make a good point.  In practice, add 10% (or if you are converting for real multiply by 1.094).  If you've not played a metres course it can be quite disconcerting.  Even at 100 metres or 110 yards there is already a difference of one club.  Despite my having played a good number of courses measured in metres and knowing to make allowance I still find it difficult to take enough club and to commit to the shot 100%.  Interestingly when we get continental players commentating on English television (Jan van de Velde is very good) they talk in yards without the slightest difficulty.

I think Dollymount is going under the knife as we speak.

Metres or meters should be banned.  I have never heard anybody say golf is a game of centimeters.  Golf is a game of inches right!

You take the metric measurement, and multiply it by 1.09 to get yards.  To get meters out of yards, divide by 1.09.

No, I meant to poke fun because metreage or meterage simply doesn't work.  I blame de Gaulle.
