Using Google to search the golfclubatlas.com archives
« on: January 19, 2006, 11:08:49 AM »
I know that there is a fair amount of frustration on this board regarding the search function.

As I professional web developer, I understand the technical difficulties of indexing 250,000 posts, and I therefore feel less frustrated than some.

Nevertheless, we all enjoy a good search every now and then. For instance, I wanted to look at the "Biggest Lies" thread this morning.

I went to google.com and in the search box typed -

biggest lies site:golfclubatlas.com

and I then clicked on the "Search" button.

What a treat! What an engine!

Just type your search followed by "site:golfclubatlas.com".

The results are harder to read and interpret, but much more numerous and quick to appear.

That's great advice and well appreciated, Michael, many thanks.

But could you do me one teeny favor?  Given who I am employed by, and certain events of yesterday making every little bit count, could you try the same thing using Yahoo! search and give a plug for that as well, assuming it works equally (which I am damn well gonna assume)?

Thanks.

Bad assumption Sir Huck ...

I personally don't have a problem with the search feature.  It is much easier to search by poster than keywords ...

:)

What was that pithy aphorism about assumptions?

returns:

We did not find results for ""biggest lies" site:golfclubatlas.com".

Dammit.

The folks here sure want us to believe Yahoo! search works every bit as well as Google.

Oh well, never mind.  We're superior to them in many other things.  Search is indeed their world.

fyi: I don't work for either and I use both.  Yahoo does do quite a bit very well (finance, news, groups, etc) and is catching up in search.  So, not to worry Tom.  Y! is in a good place.

Thanks, Joe.  Given the stock hit yesterday, we do need comforting.
