England Golf Trip

I'm trying to figure out how difficult it would be to plan a trip to play some of the English courses profiled here.  I've been lucky enough to play in Scotland and Ireland, but never in England or Wales.  Purpose of this trip would be a celebration of retirement for my father.

 I did a bit of searching around the site prior to posting but wasn't able to dredge up much.  I certainly would appreciate any thoughts from someone that could help me cut thru to quick planning.  Thanks.

There is a huge amount of information on this site about courses in England and Wales.  Check out Ran's "Courses by Country" to the left and Mark Rowlinson's epic guide to UK golf on the right. However......

......there is no easy guide to "planning" your trip.  This must be and ought to be a labour, but a labour of love.  Unless you want to go through a tour operator, you must resign yourself to spending time thinking about what you and your dad want to do and researching the various alternatives which are possible (and there are MANY more possibilities for England than Ireland or Scotland).

I would recommend tghat you use the tool that Pete mentioned (which is good), come up with some ideas, and then ask the forum for our thoughts.  But, that's just my opinion.... :)

John, Mark Rowlinson wrote a fine book called the Globetrotter Golfer's guid to England and Wales.  It is a good read.  I would also recommend Jim Finnegan's book on golf in England and Wales.  I forget the name but it is delighful.

Guys,
Thanks for the thoughts. I am a total novice on England but love the looks and descriptions of many of the courses that have been profiled.  Mark's book sounds like a great place to start as does the ukgolf website idea.

One of the best golf trips I've taken was to Southport, England. You could stay Southport and play Lytham & St. Annes, Birkdale, Hoylake, Formby, Hillside, Southport & Ainsdale, West Lancaster and more. That's three British Open courses. One phone call and all arrangements can me made for you.  My connetion is Roy Wilkerson with Southport Golf Tours.  You can find them on the web.
