Matt,
Ross designed Sedgefield CC in 1926, he actually planned and designed two courses at Sedgefied (the Blue and the Red Course). The Blue got built and they started building the Red, but didn't finish it. The practice field and tennis courts sit on parts of the Red course that they started. And you can still see an old tee or two in some of the yards along the drive to the club. I love Sedgefield, Ross routed it superbly (surprise) over your typical rolling N.C. piedmont ground. The club had their greens rebuilt in the mid 80's (most have lost much of their contours, size, and strategic corners) and all of the spoils were placed behind the bunkers so the bunker's are not as they should be. However, many of the bunkers have kept their original forms well (at least the faces and sand lines). They have also added quite a few bunkers to the course especially at the greens. Ross bunkered Sedgefield lightly using the topography and mounding in place of bunkers at many greens. When they added the bunkers they lost much of the ground contours and open entries to the greens. The skeleton is still there and it is very fun to play. They have not undergone a restoration, but asked us to do a Restoration Master Plan which they voted to implement in the coming year. The course is very fun to play and I hope you enjoy it.
p.s. great quote from "The Dean", go heels!
