Jordan, this area may not be an architectural wasteland, but it is pretty close. Almost all of the best courses are private, and as far as they go, they aren't that great compared to the rest of the country. If you can these are the courses you should try to see, if not play. A letter to these pros/supers (Mike Hayes may be able to help you here) explaining your desire to learn about architecture would probably work particularly in the winter. If it ever stops raining, that is.
