Sorry about the rock 'n' roll quote for a subject line, but all the great things I had heard about we-ko-pa did not prepare me for just how excellent is was.

The great:  Lines of charm everywhere!  Terrific angles - both risk reward off the tee AND specimen cacti and bunkers in the middle of the fairway.  Terrific use of washes to create great angles.  The green settings are excellent and greens had amazing undulations.  I noticed that almost all greens are "up greens" - that sit above the surrounds.  The conditioning was very good.  The areas around the bunkers were not overseeded so the coloring added some texture to the course.

These were the widest fairways of any desert course I have played.

What an easy walk!  Brian and I had no problem and while we were warned ahead that the riders in our group might not like cart path only, they had no problem and actually relished the extra walking.  (We were blessed with having two real golf lovers as our playing partners for this trip).  Greens and tee boxes are really close.  Usually the first time I play a course I have some trouble figuring out where I'm going, but not here...maybe once or twice I was unsure.

I'll break it down more and have pix on my website.

Also, I forget who recommended Sapporo, but that was tonight's dinner and it was awesome.  I had the "Lightly seasoned pepperdusted hawaiian ahi tuna in lobster cognac glaze with anaki mushrooms" (say that 10x fast) and a kobe beef and mushroom salad.  I dont remember who recommended that one, but great call. We'll be eating at another GCA rec tomorrow.

Tomorrow is Talking Stick North.

BTW->  McCormick Ranch is a really good value as long as you dont do room service (DOUBLE CHARGE!?), but our villa is huge.

Couldnt resist the musical quote...its form a song called We-ko-pa groove.

Jay, That sounds great, and I can fully understand your enthusiasim for We-Ko-Pa.
My impression was that Scott used classic designs elements and married them with modern desert golf, to create an excellent, albeit commercial, viable product. Leaving carts on the path only enhances the great conditioning, and good call on the walk.

C&C will be introducing one of their courses at We-Ko Pa soon. It should be looked forward to. Hopefully you will appreciate the subtle style of TSN.

Glad you "got the repherence too":)

Weekapaug, we-ko-pa...it works either way.  Iph you think that repherence was good, I'll have to phollow up with another musical repherence aphter I play DEAL;)  We are everywhere...but do you have any idea how many people told me how much heartache they have had the last two New Years?  Especially aphter the incredible 2003-2004 Miami New Years?  Matchbox 20/Black Eyed Peas is NOT THE SAME.

They are gonna send me some pix of the new course in a couple months...I'm looking phorward to seeing them.  MOst of my review of the original course is up on my site, but I'm working on more and I'll post some about the new course as well.

Talking Stick today was great...Nos 4 & 12 & 15 were my phaves.  They had recently done a light overseeding and conditions were very good.  We all really enjoyed it.  Excellent green contours and they rolled so true.  All you CC Riders ;) (Coore Crenshaw fans) should be happy to know my playing partners all said today was the best of the trip.

Apache, then Blackstone, then Sedona coming up...

I love golph club atlas!

;D Wwwwwiiiiiiilllllllssssssoooooooon!!! Let's see who get's that one ;D I'm taking credit for Sapporo (live around the corner) and I'm glad that you guys had a great time in AZ... Just a little heads up for those buried in grey skies and snow... I returned from CO on the 28th, and it's been nothing but sunny and 80 with a slight breeze ever since... Ouch ;) Greens at Outlaw are running around a 13.5, the dormant around the greens is brutal, and a buddy of mine who made it thru Q school shot a 78 when I had him out last week! It's not everyday you can take $10 of a PGA tour pro ;)
