winter golf and Holiday greetings
« on: December 23, 2005, 09:06:32 AM »
I always like to see the USGA selection of holiday cards and see what snow covered 'green' scene they pick for the new greeting cards.

When the course is covered,  it is so peaceful to walk about the holes.

Last year, I received a 'holiday' card from George Peet, who is professional photographer.  He does 'golf course' work among other things and seems to do a good bit for Silva and Cornish.  Anyway, he sent a nice 'photo' card of a snow covered green with a big black lab bounding over the green.

So, let's see some of your best snow covered golf course scenes.

Sort of a GCA holiday card.

I'll start and you can add yours.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Happy Hanukkah

ps  The lads from Florida and southern California have a 'pass' and can use photoshop. ;)

John,

Thanks for this photograph.  Shamelessly, my first thought was of Clifford Curry, Budweiser and sorrority girls - not in that order.

I hope to visit you in 2006.

Mike,

I'll lookout for you again in 2006, and maybe I can attend Hillbilly event.  If Tennessee is 5-6 again, we can also play when you visit Knoxville for financing the Phil Fulmer Steakhouse enterprise.

Bob,

Sure. You don't get much snow in Atlanta.  We only talked on the phone this year and mostly in November of all months.  Perhaps we can play some golf this coming year and the earlier the better.  Merry Christmas.

Mickey,

1) Upload the photo somewhere (Flickr, Photobucket etc.)

2) Insert the URL (click on the right mouse button and use properties to see the URL) for photo between the [ img ] and [ /img ] tag - remove the spaces in the tags - they are only used for providing this example.

Jari,

Nice winter photos. I can see the bunker depressions, and the snow on the trees looks like it would a shimmery reflection.

Aiden,

I think your input needs  " [ " around the img labels rather than a  " (  ".

Also, while I use photobucket and not flickr, the file name looks odd with the ' ?saved=1 '  ending segment for the name.

Also, some systems do not allow for the '?' character in a file name.  So that also leads me to question the file name.

Rick,

The tee sign shows water close to the tee. So, is that a hockey goal in the background ?   8)

I must confess those are great pictures, IF I was a Cross Country Skier. I like the golf course pic showing a beautiful dog leg right. It says tee it up today Tiger.

Thanks John, finally got it to work. Sorry for taking up so much space with my ineptitude.

No snow down here.. 74°F this afternoon.. a beautiful blue sky and gentle gulf breeze.. Palmer course was closed, so we had it to ourselves while others were full to gills with tee times till 4 PM...

Aidan, when was that picture taken??  I have played several rounds at RSM and don't remember ever seeing snow or snow-capped mountain peaks in the distance!

Bill,

My wife thinks it was "99" based on kids photos. I believe it was the early 2000's. When I get to the office I can check when the image was scanned. I know it was the day after St Patricks Day-being Irish I should know that! We had a "one in 50 year storm". Hwy 154 was closed for a day. The next day I got to the course, knew exactly where I needed to be to get a good shot, was fortunate with 5 mins of sunshine and voila! With the exception of jolly old Nick crossing the fairway, it's all  natural, no pixel and bits magic, just raw good fortune and a little bit of luck.

Slainte,

Aidan.
