I think your issue is solved, Sean.  See below.

I spose there is always the option of playing one course for a week straight.  Maybe Sand Hills would do the job.  Does the club have on site accomodation?
Yes - very comfortable - perfect for two golfers to rest after the long day's play.

Is there a pleasant bar where old world wine can be had?
Good lord yes - and the best selection of single malts outside of Scotland itself.

Does the bar have views?
ABSOLUTELY!  Take your vino/scotch out to the porch and see the greatest star-show not at altitude you can imagine.
Is the membership a load of happy chappies?
The ones I've met sure have been.  But odds are you're there with other known friends anyway.  Rest assured the welcome is extremely warm.

The right three affirmatives would probably settle the question for me.
If it's not settled, then I failed my mission in life.

and what would you be looking at Mark?

which makes me think:  Garden City might not be a bad choice since Susan Lucci lives off the fifth fairway, I'm told ;)
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

Paul, I'd be looking at the same thing Tom and Sean were: the greatest star-show you could imagine not at altitude. Albeit in another "state"...Mark

I did a google search Mark...NOW I get it!

The list is long, but I'd have to start at the top

Bandon.

Santa giving me a free trip?

Thank you!  I'll take Australia/NZ...just because I can scrape together the benjamins for a plane to the UK more easily than NZ...plus those $280 rounds are higher than most UK courses too.

Here's a unique one...how about MOROCCO???

Yes, the golf is subpar, but riding a camel into the Sahara...bargaining for a carpet or lantern in the souks of Marrakesh...crispy fresh fish in Essouira during the June Music festival...a well rounded life experience of a vacation.

What do you all think of the golf there?  I have not yet been...but it's on the list.

Australia, without doubt.  Royal Melbourne and then a week at Barnbougle.

I'd pack my bags right now and go....  I wouldn't ask any questions or make any requests.  No looking a gift horse in the mouth for me.   ::)
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

If membership is not an issue, then I'd go to the Monterey Peninsula.  I'd play Pebble (once or twice) and Spyglass and Spanish Bay and MPCC and then spend the rest of the time playing CPC.

If I can't get on CPC, then I might try Scotland.

Or maybe I'd just go back to Bandon in June and play 378 holes (198 at PD, 108 at BD, and 72 at BT.)
