Some of that bs has started to fall quite heavily in my little corner of Worcestershire.  No, not the type you billow up, the stuff that floats round the skies of Scotland, even during the time that everyone else calls summer.  In fact, we have been getting large measures of Scottish weather for over a week now.  Very depressing.

Thought you were going to go on again about the definition of "penal" golf holes.......

Golf was very much on this weekend, and on the regular greens to boot.  45-50 degrees and marvellously clear.  Perfect "winter" golf conditions.  The only visible snow is on the far and high hills.  I think that global warming is bypassing England and heading straight to Scotland.  The birds are back and we expect the daffodils to be popping out of the ground soon.  Must be good sauce making coniditions down there in Worcestershire, however.  No?

Atop the clay wall is the beginning of the fairway. It's only about 200 yards to get there from the tees Jeff is using in the photo. You can even catch a peek of green in the distance beyond the cart path on the left edge of the frame.

Sean, a few years ago I played the Broadway Golf Club which is right up on top of the escarpment that forms the eastern wall of the Vale of Eavesham!  Not quite Painswickian but quite a lot of good quirk along the escarpment edge.

Love the photos of North Berwick West Links, good stuff.  The first time I played I hit six iron off that beach on after a "dodgy" swing on the second tee, down the beach several hundred yards, onto the green for a par!  Fun stuff.  Do that at Crail and you're OB.

Those North Berwick photos -even the Glen's 18th tee view - make me want to get on the phone with my travel agent!  Thanks for posting.

You're right, that blind par 3 (#13?) followed by the blind drive over the hill from that adjacent tee (#14?) is truly a solid pair of holes.  Hitting the tee shot over the cliff on the par 3 was an act of faith!  The view from the 18th tee is superb.  And the Bass Rock is always there, a lot closer to the Glen than to the West Links.

Are you sure that photo from Pennard isn't the 9th tee shot?

The 18th for sure.  The photo is taken from the right side of the fairway looking left toward the course rather than straight at the 18th green.  From the 9th tee there are two bunkers down the left and the ground drops considerably from left to right.  I can see why you think the photo may be the 9th.  The marker pole in the distance with a fairway disappearing.

The 5th, a short par 3.  I hope Matt Ward sees this.


The par 3 11th.  This hole doesn't get the credit its due.  Easily one of the best one shotters I have played.

Great pictures. You may get some more BS coming your way if this proves out in the long run. The Atlantic conveyor belt, which provides GB&I with (warm) weather and water is slowing down.
