Magnificent as I may be, I ain't got nobody.  Just hanging around gormlessly and making inane comments whilst waiting for that last 5 minutes when the real pros like Mrs. Shivas enter the fray.....

Kudos to anyone who thought to do that.

Golden Palace Casino....
They bid a bunch of times on the Harley that Jay Leno auctioned off for charity.

They are the same ones who pay the streakers at sporting events emblazened with a large temporary tatoo.

Since this guy isn't limiting bids in any way from people with no feedback or without proof they have the money like most high priced Ebay auctions do, what is to stop someone from screwing up the whole process by creating themselves a hotmail account with bogus name & address, using that to create an ebay account, then putting in a $100K bid just to torpedo the auction?

Maybe he didn't know the amounts would go this high, but if I was him at this point I'd pull the auction and restart it, requiring some proof of ability and desire to pay before being permitted to bid.  Getting $50K for this isn't going to help him at all if its to someone with 0 feedback, because you know damn well the bid won't be real.

I hope Phillip and Mark are reading this, they're organising the Nuda Cup. I'll leave the details to them.

Some guy named "Golfrok" is now the high bidder. Based on previous eBAY purchases, here's what we can surmise about him:
1) Lives in or around Malvern, PA
2) Wears a 44R jacket, Large shirt, and size 9 feet
3) Still wears ties regularly to work or play (not many left who do)
4) Has a penchant for european styling (Hugo Boss, Joseph Abboud)
5) Has at least one son, age 7-9

My $100,000 is totally facetious, BTW. Value-wise I don't want to see it go higher than around $13k---or maybe $13,329.17  ;)

If we want to see the club get it, please stop with the kind of numbers you guys are throwing out there.  Who knows if the owner is reading this or not.  He knows of the site.  I don't think we're doing much to help the cause of PV getting the item.  Of course I believe everyone is free to post what they want but if we start with the premise that we'd like to see this end up at PV then I think some of the conversation is counterproductive.

Good for you, Shivas. And furthermore even if this item is legit it's worth absolutely zero in research value. :(

Has anyone been able to offer up an educated guess as to the
origin of the handwritten notes on the back of the print?

Come on, Tom. You know full well that research value has nothing to do with apparent value. This is a rare find, and even you have to admit to that. That it doesn't help in the ongoing Macwood vs. Paul debate over whether Harry Colt (or Cult, as we now know him) had much to do with Pine Valley, doesn't mean this thing isn't worth some nice coin. :)

To Wayne's point, is there anyone who can really put a value on this thing? Maybe Michael Hurdzan? In reality, it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. That might be Pine Valley.... or maybe not.

Craig,

I sent a scan of the writing (or my free-hand reproduction rather) to Paul Turner but have not heard from him.  I hope he'll get back sometime soon.

Hi Wayne

Just got the photos, had a quick look and compared with the Colt writing I have... left a message on your phone.

I think the plan is definitely by Colt.   It's his style through and through.  But the title on the back doesn't look similar to the Colt writing I have (which is mainly freehand letters rather than a title).

It also doesn't look like Crump's.

There was an individual in Texas who would put duplicate/copies of vintage Corvette documenation which he had fabricated out in the Texas sun and allowed a water sprinkler to pass over them in order to make them look old.  That documentation could add tens of thousands of dollars to the value of the car.

Now I'm thinking of selling on eBay the back channel email traffic that's flowing on this one.

Don't know who HH John is, but I am relieved, to a point, that he won.
I was beginning to worry that I would not be able to come up with a  way to successfully extricate my wife's boot from my rear end, had I
put in the winning bid. Apparently I came in 2nd by a buck.

I am shocked that the winning bid did not go higher. Hopefully  the print is in good hands.

PAul, I was just speculating, and as someone who believes in playing by the rules I didnt know a seller could end the item early.
I think in this case, it is best that the club own it,but there is no doubt the seller gave up a chance at much bigger sum, just to do the right thing. This is all predicated on whether HH_John is a PV memeber and was doing this on behalf of the club,of course.
